The American Civil War:1861-65.
A clip from Gettysburg.
I like reading about the American Civil War, and any documentaries on it too. There were certainly a lot of interesting people who fought in it.A horrendous conflict between the Northern states against the Deep South over the evil of slavery.Although some Americans responded that it was really over the South's state rights. However, that's something I don't believe.
Another thing was that General Robert E Lee opposed slavery, but felt his duty was to his own state.Sometimes,I think he had double standards. To me,in this modern world-which unfortunately still has many people suffering under slavery by some many evil scumbags-shouldn't Lee have done the right thing? He and General Grant could have been a highly formidable team together.
As it was,Lee chose his side, and by the time he realised it was too late and the war was lost, over 600,000 lives had been lost.Even after Lee's surrender to Grant, there was still immense suffering inflicted on the freedom slaves. It's still shocking that the racist attitude is just as strong as ever in our world. It shouldn't matter what the colour of your skin is:We're all human beings.

General Ulysses S Grant.
I'm fascinated by General Grant, the leading General of the Union army.He was widely criticised for the severe losses he incurred against Lee's Confederate forces, but Grant was a highly skilled, military commander. Just like Lee,he wasn't perfect, but he always had that presence of mind that if things didn't go as planned or wrong, Grant could still work it out,and he did so many times.
