The Count of Monte Cristo.
This is one of my favourite stories, which tells of an innocent man wrongly imprisoned for years, but manages to escape. He is bequeathed a colossal fortune, from a fellow inmate he befriends, and ruthlessly goes after the people that betrayed him. It's really interesting to read, that it's actually based on a true story. The author:Alexander Dumas, read about it,in an obscure police file. He was inspired by it,although he admits he made up a lot in it.
This was the first version I watched way back in 1975,and I loved it.I was a big fan of Richard Chamberlain, and this one is still a great favourite. It certainly had an excellent cast:Trevor Howard,Donald Pleasance and Tony Curtis to name but three.
There were certainly a couple of pretty actresses performing in it,but alas:nothing of any interest. So,it looks like another future art project.
